Apparently it was a local TV station that broke the news earlier this month that a hospital in northern Chile failed to inform the 25 patients of their condition and had been hiding facts from patients since 2004. It was also reported that four of those patients died recently from HIV-related causes, which could have prevented had they known their health condition.

Barria knew about the situation since this August when commissioners were sent to investigate, but failed to admit the incident until now.

The now ex-Health Minister Barria stated that she decided to resign over the situation since it has seriously affected the Chilean people’s confidence in the health system.
