A new study from the University of California in San Francisco looked closely at the relationship between obesity and the brain.

Researchers looked at the nervous system of a worm and how serotonin levels in the nervous system had an important impact on how much the worms ate as well as what the body did with the calories.

As it turns out, when serotonin levels are low, more fat is stored.  This basically means, applied to humans, why diets usually fail.  It is not so much what food you are eating, but what your body is choosing to do with that food.

This study may be considered a breakthrough in dieting, as it has always been a focus of what and how much you are eating.
