A new labeling system has been designed to help shoppers make more informed decisions on their food purchases.

The new labels will be featured on the front of food and drink products enabling shoppers to better decide the nutritional value of their grocery items.

The front-of-pack labeling system was a volunteer effort from health organizations, scientists and food and beverage manufacturers.

Called the Smart Choices Program, this system will begin appearing on products the first of next year.
