Turning up your iPods’ in-ear volume may have consequences, besides the mute going off and on for no reason.
A report recently released by the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) warns of permanent hearing damage from high noise levels coming from in-ear entertainment.
The report estimates that between 5 and 10% of all music player users will risk permanent hearing loss if they listen to their tunes for more than an hour a day at higher than normal volumes for at least five years.
EU Consumer Affairs Commissioner Meglena Kuneva states, “I am concerned that so many young people, in particular, who are frequent users of personal music players and mobile phones at high acoustic levels, may be unknowingly damaging their hearing irrevocably.”
Is this report going to change the way you listen to your personal music?
