tinyhouseI’ve often thought that if I could just simplify my life, things would get easier. You know, the less “stuff” you have, the less you have to worry about. Well I think I’ve found someone who’s successfully living that lifestyle.

Jay Shafer, of www.tumbleweedhouses.com, currently lives in a 100 square foot home that he designed for himself. Yes, that’s his actual home in the picture.

Here’s what Jay has to say, “My decision to inhabit just 100 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.”

Now with 4 kids and a big dog, I don’t think a tiny house is in my immediate future, but it sure looks good for the future. At least it’s a vision I can hold when I’m stepping over the piles of toys and books that seem to fill the hallways of my house right now.
