The best thing you can nutritionally to maintain healthy eyesight or repair age related macular degeneration is to get plenty of lutein in your diet.
What’s lutien? It’s a carotenoid that’s found dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale. Research has proven that it has a major effect on eye health and can improve your vision. Lutein has even been shown to decrease the risk of getting age related macular degeneration. In some cases, people have even been able to reverse this type of condition with a diet high in lutein.
Here’s some background. Lutein is one of over 600 members of the carotenoid family. Carotenoids are the coloring agents found in red, yellow, orange and dark green fruits and vegetables.
In addition to the eye health benefits, many studies credit carotenoids with a reduced risk of cancer and heart disease.
How should you get your lutein? Fruits and vegetables are the natural source of carotenoids for humans. And dark green leafy vegetables are the healthiest natural source of lutein.
