I’m sure you’ve heard all the recommendations to add more fruit and vegetables to your daily diet. But do you know why? Do you know what these foods provide for your body?
Fruit and vegetables are nutrient dense. That means they’re low in fat and calories, but high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, complex carbs and the phytonutrients our bodies need to function at their best.
Some fruits and vegetables have more nutrition than others. Here are some of the most nutrient rich choices.
Fruits - berries, cantaloupe, oranges, grapefruit, papaya, pineapple, kiwi, guava, grapes
Vegetables - spinach, kale, swiss chard, romaine lettuce, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, garlic, onions
You’ll have to make a conscious choice to get the recommended 5 to 9 servings of these colorful fruits and vegetables every day. But your body will thank you for it with increased energy and better overall health.
