pollenThis is the time of year (early Spring to late Summer) when pollen is thick in the air. And, if you have seasonal allergies, it can cause you runny nose, itchy eyes, congestion, sneezing and even tiredness.

What’s actually happening is that when the pollen (which is an irritant) comes into contact with the lining of your nose, eyes or throat, the body’s immune system sees it as an invader and tries to prevent the invasion.

In many people, this isn’t a problem. But for the 22 million Americans that suffer with allergies, their immune system identifies these particles as “dangerous,” and then produces an excessive reaction that actually causes inflammation (and makes you miserable).

There are a couple of nutrients that can help boost your immune system and fight off allergies. Here’s what’s recommended:

Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Vitamin E for boosting immunity and reducing inflammation.

Vitamin B Complex to enhance the function of the immune system

The minerals Zinc, Manganese, Calcium and Magnesium. These have all been shown to boost immunity and help reduce the body’s reaction to the pollen.

The herbs Elecampane for clear bronchial passages; Nettle for improved respiratory response; Horseradish for better sinus air flow; Thyme for clear lungs and Pleurisy to reduce the possibility of breathing spasms and restrictions.
