Atkins diet and diabetes

Livin La Vida Low Carb talks about how well the Atkins diet works for diabetics. During the most popular stages of the Atkins while it was in the popular eye, the most impressed I was with it was when hearing from diabetics who had turned their lives around by using it. My wife often buys diabetic magazines to find the best low carb recipes now, as low carb magazines have all but disappeared.

That’s Type 2, not all diabetes, yes? People get sloppy about the terminology, but there’s a huge difference. And a healthhacker should know the difference!

Diet & Fitness magazine also carries EXCELLENT low-carb recipes.

Point, Will, however I did apply to all as a generalization with my comment because I know of Type 1 diabetics who use low carb diets to help control blood sugar.

Tobias, fair enough, and apologies if my brevity made me sound blunt. Emma’s a Type 1, and she does pay a lot of attention to the glycemic index. I think my greater concern is with the Atkins diet itself: it’s reasonable as diets go, but it’s not a healthy lifestyle, and people who go on diets are often sidestepping what they need to do: change their eating styles. I think it’s better to forego all diets. Simply switch to a healthier way of eating and find your new weight gradually.
