Hey, just FYI: I had twisted my knee last April, and I tried going on the elliptical because I thought it would be low-impact. It actually made my knee worse. My chiropractor said that for people who are 5'7" (like me) and shorter, the elliptical is not actually good because it puts your knees and quads in a funny angle. (Something called the "Q angle," you can Google or A9.com it for more info) All I know is, I used to have knee blowouts fairly regularly while I used an elliptical. I haven't been on one since last April, and my knees are fine *knocks on wood*.

I have trouble with them too, and I'm young enough I don't mind pounding the knees a bit :-) I like the step machine more than the elliptical, which I've fallen off of before!

I've tried the elliptical trainers, but I have a wacky equilibrium and get dizzy & unbalanced when I'm on them. I have to hang on pretty tight to treadmills too.

I was pretty disappointed -- they look fun.
