It’s been a while since the lo-carb craze, but there are still a large number of practitioners. Diet-Blog points out an awesome blog called Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb. The author lost 180 pounds on it, and is interviewed over at Diet-Blog:
Excellent question! Most people would think as enthusiastic as I am about low-carb that I would think it is good for everyone to do. They’d be 100% dead wrong about that, though.
Actually, about one-third of the population is hypersensitive to fat, so the low-carb lifestyle would not be advisable for them. But the other two-thirds could certainly apply some of the basic principles of low-carb living to their lives to help them stabilize their blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and, of course, body weight.
We are a society addicted to carbohydrates in the form of sugar, white flour, and processed foods. Eliminating or at the very least greatly reducing our intake of these foods can and will help reverse the obesity and diabetes epidemics we face in 2006.
I’ve occasionally used low-carb living as a quick hack to refocus my eating habits. I’ve found a strong lifting schedule and low-carb usually works well for me, but I’ve been unwilling to recommend it to others due to people I’ve seen who ‘relapse’ and load up on carbs after depriving themselves, and much like any other yo-yo diet end up adding on the pounds they lost and then some. However living without any form of simple carbs or sugars for 2 weeks my desire to consume them is lessened, thus giving me better eating habits.
It’s nice to see people are still out there experimenting with this.
